Polynesian Composition
Here's the Polynesian song I composed:
Comparative Analysis
Duration
The song is in 4/4 and 120 bpm, speeding up to 145 in the middle. The rhythm section is an integral part of the piece. I made three drum parts to be played by 5 people on different hand hit drums such as bongos and djembes. The each play a simple rhythm that, when played all together, makes a complex and loud beat for the song.
Dynamic and Expressive Techniques
The dynamics are pretty consistent for the whole song, the singing is always loud, so are the drums and the guitar is moderate. The expressive technique would have to be how in the middle of the song the tempo considerably increases and everyone's just smashing drums and screaming.
Pitch
The pitch is very consistent. It's all low pitches as it's a bunch of male singers with limited ranges and a guitar that's playing chords to accompany the vocals.
Tone Colour
I would describe the tone colour as upbeat, exciting with a very acoustic and natural sound. The instruments used are multiple vocalists, drums (djembes, bongos, cajons), and an acoustic guitar.
Texture
The texture is somewhat thin as there is no bassline and little accompaniment. However, there are a number of drums and vocals playing at the same time, so there is not a wide variety in sounds but there are lots of instruments playing together.
Structure
The structure of the song is very standard and goes as shown:
