Classical Composition Log
Week 9
This week i chose my instruments; 2 Flutes and a clarinet Clarinet and Bassoon, and started messing around with the original motif. The outcome I liked best was this:
Week 10
This week I figured out the general structure of the composition. I settled on a softer beginning phrase with just the normal original motif, then a continued soft phrase but slightly altered in the last bar to ascend and build in dynamics, then a much more textured phrase where there were lots of 32nd notes that i'll try to fit in, then a slightly less busy phrase where the original motif is played on the off-beat , then a drop to a softer section I think i'll have just the two flutes harmonise and play an altered version of the original motif, then a phrase with the general same rhythm but the first bar is soft and gentle, the second is busy, the first beat of the next bar is gentle and the next beat is busy, then an ascending build up in the last bar, the build up is then continued in the next bar and some finale thing that every instrument will play.
Holidays
Over the two week period of the holidays i struggled at first to get the sounds that I wanted from the structure I'd made, so I changed my instruments to Piccolo, Flute, Clarinet and Bassoon, which worked heaps better. With that change I noted about half of the composition, around 16 bars, a little bit behind but oh well. I managed to figure out how I wanted graphically notate and got started with that too. One of the phrases I'd notated had actually came around by accident but it sounds pretty g, I've used it as the phrase where I said it'd drop down to just the two flutes. It's the 5th phrase in the composition if you want to hear it and here's what it looks like.
Week 1
Finished the required amount of composition on Flat. I had some issues with staying on focus with the treatments of motif we're supposed to stick to, but I'm fine with what I have.
Week 2
I finished editing the composition on Flat, I'm pretty happy with it and i made some extra tweaks to everything including the ending which was a complete mess, still is a bit but times run out whoops. I've graphically notated everything and am now sitting here putting everything up on this website.
